King of Cool

Over the past few months, the Queen Anne B & B has been revamping their gallery suites and just unveiled them last week. Each is unique, redesigned by local artists, giving true Denver flavor to the visitor’s experience.

Not only does the Queen feature local artists, but also has a long list of ecological perks, actively aiming towards becoming Denver’s only zero-waste hospitality establishment.

Gary Baseman does Denver

AIGA Colorado brought contemporary artist Gary Baseman to town last week. I could go on forever about his lecture, but I’ll spare you my opinions and just share some photos with you instead.

Gary documents his travels by shooting his toy creation Toby at different landmarks, here he is at the Denver Art Museum (photo by Gary Baseman)

Yours truly, wearing an Enlightened Chou mask (photo & mask by Gary Baseman)

After Gary wrapped up his last lecture and a day in Boulder he came out for beers. We introduced him to Man Beer and I did some mask modeling. Thanks to Matt Scobey, Sandra Fettingis, Scot Lefavor, Elena Stonaker, Ryan Lee, Mario Zoots, and David Coccagna for coming out and showing Gary how Denver locals do!

They are the life of the party.

Matt Scobey, Tuyet Nguyen, and Tony Farfalla together as Bored of Directors.

A mindblowing art show.

Because we like to party.

This Weekend Goes Out To The Ladies

If you are a woman – or appreciate women – get out of the house this weekend!

Starting tonight (Fri) at Wazee Union, On Being A Woman is an art show of over 50 artists and 13 performers all to benefit the weekend long fem DIY music festival TITWRENCH. Don’t miss this show tonight, it’s going to be mindblowing!!!

Then on Saturday night shake your booty to the tunes of Brooklyn’s finest lady MC/DJ Jasmine Solano and Denver’s own Ginger Perry. Paparazzi For the People is a monthly event at Beauty Bar brought to you by Firelily.

Listen to this to get you going…

Two Of Hearts Mixtape from JASMiNE SOLANO and NiRE

See you on the streets,

Sandra Fettingis at Plastic Chapel

Sandra Fettingis is often recognized by her lovely modern jewelry and silhouettes of acrylic. “But this time, things will be different…”
Recently, at the group show Leaky Margins at Emanuel Gallery, I really enjoyed seeing her using wood, a new material (she also used wood in her piece in the group show “Mile High On The Map,” a show I unfortunately missed). The piece at Emanuel was of lazer-cut wood with enamel words stenciled around two female silhouettes – perhaps the new medium was influenced by her beau, street artist Scot Lefavor?
I asked Sandra what’s different this time? She replied “EVERYTHING! In life and art.” I can dig that.
This solo show, opening tomorrow, Saturday night from 7-11pm at Plastic Chapel (3109 E. Colfax), is not to be missed. I’m excited to see what new twists Sandra has prepared for this show!

Ride Bikes And Listen To Metal Mixtape

Every Monday night for the past year and a half I’ve been teaching an indoor cycling class to metal music, I call it Metal Monday. The class is at the yoga and cycling studio Breathe Denver at 5:45pm and is an hour of strength & endurance building drills for cyclists of all levels (think lower intensity, longer efforts). You can read more about my class and my reasoning behind choosing metal in this interview on Team Beer’d.

See Breathe’s full cycling schedule, make sure you sign up for cycling classes in advance. I also teach a beginner’s class on Wednesday!

Enough about the class, I want to give you some music!!! Click on the image below to download the free mixtape.
